The urge to go into a battle knowing you are at the wrong end of it seems to be clearest sign of ego’s hold over wisdom . Massaging your ego becomes an easier option to choose rather than being on the side of righteousness .
This blinding effect of superiority seldom blocks the light of reality and engulfs the person in the shadow of his pride . This phenomenon is not common in epic decisions but also the small choices we make in our everyday life .
We keep on escalating a simple argument into a fight even after realizing we’re wrong- not because we are backed by truth but because anger our doesn’t want us to think pragmatically
We often cling to alcohol or pack of smokes even when we know it can harm us tremendously because our decision is not backed by a choice but despair of short lived euphoria .
Each of these conflict showcase similar struggle , awareness whispering wisdom into us but emotion dragging us into the battle already. But what makes our emotions overpower the awareness and pragmatic approach ?
There’s some deeper angle into this , the entire thought of public humiliation prevents a person into pulling his incorrect decision and forcing it into his ego .
Pride is not loud , its heavy in nature since it changes the perception until wrongness feels like a weight worth carrying on your back . It conceals itself as necessity which becomes a part of your identity .
Man’s rationality seems to be condensed to himself while taking a decision which may contain certain biases leading to ignorance of what logic says . If something feels good , we often understate the dangers its dangers , and if the same things feels bad , we tend to see it as risky thing to do -even when the logic says otherwise .
Hooking up with final outcome often overrules the morality of the situation . An outcome becomes the symbol of achievement in your life . It becomes a proof of your craving of a result .
Whereas , the inner truth or the morality does require any proof , it simply exists on its own . When the outcome arrives , it barely contains any truth in it just becomes another addiction waiting to be tried upon .
We slowly judge a process on the basis of its outcome , if its result is not in our favor , then its not worth trying anymore . In those situations , delay leads to dragging of the process . The longer the delay , the morality begins to rot . The inner truth does not disappear instantly but rather slowly like a fruit when left untouched decays slowly into bitterness .
Delay is not unprejudiced , it aids in making truth feel like irrelevant , the comfort provided by giving up feels better than the truth itself . And as the delayed outcome arrives , the person waiting for it also withers away like his decayed truth .
Truth or your morality was never meant to survive the weight of the desire. It what holds the truth loosens . The real test is how long we can hold the truth to counter the desire , ego , despair .
The moment you hold truth long enough to outweigh your greed of outcome , it will not feel like something that you are holding , slowly the truth will start carrying you . The struggle will leave your way and clarity will replace the conflict through the illumination of truth .
Most importantly you will not feel triumphant but will feel free , free from the weight of outcomes , from the blatant noise of pride and illusions of control and validation .
“Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.” – Marcus Aurelius
